Mr Mike Yang

Mike came to Australia in 2002 as an international student from China; previously he had studied in Singapore and completed his GCE “O” Level with high distinctions. Obtaining a coursework scholarship at entry, he graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor’s degree in economics and marketing.


In 2006 Mike started his first entrepreneurial project by building six townhouses in Melbourne. At the same year he studied Advanced Diploma of Translating and Interpreting at RMIT University and was one of only two graduates who gained all three national accreditations in Level-3 professional translating/ interpreting between English and Chinese/Mandarin.


Freelancing as a top interpreter and translator for government delegations, law courts, business conferences and Melbourne’s art scenes, Mike achieved successful sales of the real estate project in 2007. He then moved on to co-founding the Jianghan University Golf College which has collaborated with PGA Australia to provide golf-management training for over 300 tertiary students in Wuhan, China.


In 2009, Mike moved to his other interests - politics and community affairs and started working for Hong Lim MP, Special Advisor to the Premier on Victoria-Asia Business Relations. Dedicated to promoting interests for Chinese Australians, Mike is a member of the National Executive of the CCCA.


Mike now works at the Office of the Opposition and is Advisor to the Hon. Daniel Andrews MP – Leader of the Opposition in Victoria.


Mike has actively involved in university and international students affairs. In 2003 he represented Melbourne University as well as Australia for the first time to the International Varsity Debate in Beijing. In 2010 and 2011 he was the face of RMIT University’s Interpreting and Translating program. Mike is also special-appointed by the Vice-Chancellor of Melbourne University to sit on its first University Alumni Council.
